Rennsport: “Renewed effort” to bring VR to PC and console versions
The team behind Rennsport has stated it hopes to include VR compatibility on both PC and PlayStation 5 in future.
It’s the question many gamers ask of prospective racing sims, and Rennsport is no different.
After a flurry of information was released about the game’s new pricing model, future DLC and technical specifications, sim racers still want to know one thing: Will Rennsport have VR? The sim’s recent ‘Radio Check’ episode helped shed some light on the matter.
No VR, no buy
For those in the parochial ‘No VR, no buy’ crowd, Rennsport won’t have full VR functionality in v1.0. However, the signs are positive that VR will be added to the game at a later date, and not just on PC.
“We still want to enable VR, but right now the focus is on creating the launch, making sure we can launch Rennsport on PC and consoles,” states Creative Director Kim Orremark, understandably emphasising the game’s short lead-in time (Q4 2025).
“After that, we have a plan to pick up the VR work we started. We also now have the opportunity on PlayStation for PlayStation VR [PS VR2 headsets], so we’re going to go into that with renewed effort,” he concluded, intriguingly making positive sounds about the prospect of not only VR making it to the PC version, but also utilising Sony’s PS VR2 headset.
As the PS5 currently suffers from a dearth of quality PS VR2-compatible racing titles (Gran Turismo 7 excluded), Rennsport can potentially fill a lucrative void in the console market. However, there’s been no word on Xbox VR compatibility.

Work-in-progress
VR was added to the PC version of Rennsport as a work-in-progress feature during its Open Beta period in July 2024. Although functional, it required a lot of optimisation to attain playable framerates, something other Unreal Engine-powered games like EA SPORTS WRC and Assetto Corsa Competizione also experienced.
Implementing VR on consoles will be tougher still, given their relative lack of horsepower compared to higher-spec PCs.

“VR will be a bigger thing, which we would like to bring back to Rennsport when we are able to have it on console and PC,” added Competition Company CEO Morris Hebecker, further reinforcing Rennsport’s commitment to VR.
So, VR is still very much at the forefront of Rennsport’s thoughts, but with no solid timeline available, the ‘no VR, no buy’ congregation will have to wait a little bit longer for a Rennsport pilgrimage.
