You’ve been able to date existential dread and the personification of rejection, and yet this still might be the weirdest one yet. Nightmare may also be a personification of an unseen force, but this force is far different from the others.

Date Everything! could never just stop at regular objects, so now you’ll have to endure a bit of suffering for this gothic girl. She’s creepy, spooky, and can be downright terrifying, but doesn’t that just add to the allure?

While she is creepy, her story is actually rather sweet once you get past the horrific nightmares. This guide will show you how to navigate your relationship with Nightmare to reach whatever destination you’re after.

Nightmare Location

Nightmare is a dateable that doesn’t have a definitive spot in the house. Much like her namesake, she’ll come find you after you’ve decided to go to sleep for the day.

She can show up randomly or you can force her to come to you at night by downing some coffee at night. To do this, you’ll need to go and see Kopi in the kitchen with your final dateviators charge for the day.

You don’t need a charge to speak to Nightmare. She simply shows up after you’ve gone to bed.

You’ll get a small animation that plays, and then you can go upstairs and interact with your bed to get your nightmare started.

How to Romance, Befriend, or Make Enemies with Nightmare

Nightmare’s story is interesting and unfortunately unskippable. No matter what ending you’re hoping for, you’ll have to progress through each part of her story to reach any ending.

Since she’s a nightmare, it probably isn’t difficult to figure out what exactly you’ll be doing–having nightmares. Each time you get visited by Nightmare, she’ll have a new bad dream for you to deal with.

You can either be scared or be strong, but much like Dolly, it would seem that all your choices add up to form the conclusion of her story. This guide will cover the Love path for Nightmare since that path will enable you to choose which of the endings you’d like to get.

Nightmare Introduction

When you first meet Nightmare, she’ll start off with something simple–skittering bugs that eat you alive. You should act scared, even if you aren’t, to progress her story the correct way.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
Whatever they are, they’re eating you alive.	Stop, please!
Didn’t take you as such an easy scare.	I-I’m not!
It was simply delightful to meet you.	That’s it?
Until next time…	Wait… how can I see you again?

She’ll give you lots of fun and horrific imagery, so you can understand exactly what’s happening to you. Once she’s done her job, she’s gone, and you’ll need to have more coffee the next night to wake up.

Nightmare First Conversation

Your next nightmare will see you giving a big public speech where your teeth begin to fall out. You’ll also be able to choose what your next nightmare is.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
The teeth clatter to the podium and-	H-hey, cut it out!
Something a little deeper, a tad more frightening than bugs and blood and teeth.	Are you gonna use my answer to scare me?
Don’t you want to conquer your fears? Let go of your insecurities?	(Choose whichever nightmare suits you.)

It isn’t a huge deal, so don’t focus too much on your choice. Pick whichever one you’d be interested in, and then you’ll be ready to meet up the next night. Don’t forget your coffee.

Nightmare Second Conversation

You’ll be treated to a unique scenario based on your choice, but don’t worry, all of them can lead you the same way. You’ll need to continue to be afraid of her, but this time she’ll tell you something special.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
Even if their love left before they did, it was still love	That’s too scary! Why would you show me that?
That’s true, but what do you think this teaches you?	That love is worth having, even if you have to risk being hurt?

This dialogue is taken from the Abandonment nightmare, but the responses should be virtually the same for any nightmare.

This is where you find out she’s just trying to help you overcome your fears and become a better person. She’ll send you off peacefully if you’ve been a good sport.

Nightmare Third Conversation

This time, you’ll get a chance to speak to Nightmare without having anything crazy happen. You can even be a little cheeky with her and do some flirting.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
Oh. You want to talk to me?	I was just thinking maybe we could talk a little before we get down to the scaring.
Would you like to talk about more of your fears?	I just want to talk to you, actually.
Tell me your deepest desires.	I’ve always wanted a goth girlfriend.
I guess, um… I’m not used to people playing along with me.	There’s value in fear, even if it doesn’t feel good at first.
It’s a little sad, isn’t it?	I wish people would take the time to understand you.

When she realizes she’s wasted too much time talking and needs to actually get you to have a nightmare. It doesn’t seem very well-thought-out, but you’ll have to discuss that next time.

Nightmare Fourth Conversation

This time, you’ll need to offer her some reassurance as she grapples with the fact that you might not fear her anymore. She’s sort of having a crisis over it, honestly.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
I knew it. I knew better, but I did it anyway.	Did what?
I’m losing my ability to frighten you.	Is that why you look less scary now?
Oh no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.	Are you okay?
If I can’t even scare you what good am I?	Why do you HAVE to scare me?
But despite even that fairly decent effort you can’t help but feel unthreatened.	high-pitched scream
How do you deal with this?	You need to just embrace whatever this is going to be.

When you make her feel scary, she’ll appreciate it, and you’ll have mostly solidified your ending with Nightmare. All that’s left is one more night where you’ll have to talk about the scariest thing of all, your relationship.

Nightmare Fifth Conversation

This conversation is rather simple since you’re mostly just making your most important choice. She’s ready for your answer if you’re ready for hers.

Oh it makes me shiver just to think of it.	When you have something to lose?
But maybe it’s the beginning of…	A relationship?

Nightmare Love/Friendship Path

If you’ve followed the guide up to this point, you’ll reach your final choice and be able to decide on your ending. If you’d prefer a Hate ending, here you can also choose that, although there is a unique hate path you can follow.

Nightmare Dialogue	Your Response
I just wanna scare you forever	I want to be friends (Friendship)
	I just want you to leave me alone (Hate)
	I like you too (Love)

Nightmare Hate Path

The hate path is sort of the opposite of the previous path, except that you’ll still end up going through all of her conversations. It isn’t overly complex, but I’ll highlight the choices you should make and what conversation they’ll appear in.

I guess, um… I’m not used to people playing along with me.	Can’t imagine why.

How do you deal with this?	Try being less of a baby.

Once you hit the fifth conversation, you can’t change course and will be stuck with the hate ending. None of the choices you can make during the final conversation seem to derail the Hate ending at all.

Nightmare Collectibles

Nightmare has three collectibles for you to get, with each one being an image of the nightmare you choose to suffer. You won’t be able to get them all in one run through, but you can talk to her again to get another collectible.

Nightmare certainly isn’t the weirdest dateable you can date, but she’s definitely out there. Date Everything doesn’t discriminate, so even though you’ve got some strange dateables, there are plenty of attractive ones to make up for it.
