With the recent announcement that each Marvel Rivals season will last just two months – with a new hero released every single month – fans have been quick to praise developers NetEase Games for their continued support of the free-to-play hero-shooter.
In Season 3 of Marvel Rivals, the villainous Knull has teamed up with Hela, Asgardian Goddess of Death, to introduce a new threat to the world of Rivals.
Luckily, we have some brand-new heroes to form the resistance!
Rise from the Ashes
Continuing on from the X-Men theme of Season 2, the newest hero to arrive to Marvel Rivals is that of Jean Grey as her alter-ego, the Phoenix.
Phoenix arrives as a Duelist – the DPS dealers of the roster – utilising her fiery powers to apply fire damage across the battlefield, culminating in explosive blasts that can affect multiple enemies at once. She will surely prove to be a formidable force, and a welcome addition to any six-hero line-up in either Quick Play or Ranked modes.
Phoenix enters the field at a convenient time, with the evil Knull coming to the fore and threatening the universe. He has already slayed multiple powerful Celestials, which has produced the new Klyntar: Celestial Husk map, now available as part of Season 3.
All the Trimmings
As well as the big hero and map release for Season 3, fans can also look forward to an overhauled mission system, with the introduction of new missions, ten new skins via the Battle Pass, and an intriguing set of benefits for university students.
Those in the US and UK (with other regions soon to come) can now verify their university status and gain access to ten skins and MVP screens, with these coming on a rotating basis each season.
Four legendary skins are also seeing new colour styles added that can be purchased: with Wanda being my personal main, I may just have to unlock some brand-new styles to get my kills with!
Team Up!
Oh, and how can we forget the new team-ups! With the Storm x Human Torch and the Spider-Man x Squirrel Girl Team-Ups being removed, two new Team-Ups are being introduced.
These grant certain heroes new abilities or buffs, contingent on other heroes being part of your team comp in a certain game. This time around, the Primal Flame Team-Up sees Wolverine imbued with Phoenix’s fire powers, and the Ever-Burning Bond Team-Up continues the flaming abilities as Spider-Man receives a new flaming web, courtesy of Human Torch.
Play Now!
Marvel Rivals Season 3 is now live, with the game fully free-to-play. With Phoenix arriving now, fans should also look ahead to Season 3.5, coming soon, with the arrival of the suave Blade to the roster.
